Washington Lake trip #2

We left early Monday morning to head back up to Washington Lake again.  Shortly after arriving we decided to hike to the top of Bald Mountain while the weather was nice.  In the Uintas you never know how long the good weather will last.  It usually rains in the afternoon.

On the way to the top of Bald Mountain we go through this forested  area we call "Christmas Tree Lane".

As we begin to ascend we can see so many lakes down below.

The vegetation gets very sparse the closer we get to the top.  I found these wildflowers poking out of some rocks.

At the top there are a lot of cairns people have erected.

I never would have thought such a pretty little butterfly would be hanging out at the top of the mountain.

The weather was still holding when we got back from our hike so we hopped in the caone to do some fishing.

There are a lot of Tiger Trout that were planted in the lake this year.

The lake was sublime.

That night after dinner we made Ho Dduk.  A Korean street food.  Alex had bought a mix for it at a Korean market last week.

The next morning we went on another hike.  This one was completely different from the Bald Mountain hike.  We passed along the shores of three different lakes.

There were 5 of these wooded footbridges along the way.

Wildflowers lined the trail.

We stopped to fish at Tail Lake.

Then stopped again to fish at Shadow Lake. 

This was a little bridge made out of a very large rock.

We passed by several gorgeous meadows as well.

So, we got our fill of fishing and hiking.  We have another trip planned to the lake in August.  Yay, we can't wait!

Alex and Cody are birthday boys.

Sunday evening we celebrated Alex's and Cody's birthdays with dinner and ice cream pies.

Washington Lake trip #1

We headed out last week and spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday up at our favorite lake, Washington, in the Uintas.  It was heavenly.

Right after we got there we launched the canoe.  Dave sang me his "Paddlin' Madeline" canoe song,  My favorite line from the song, "Oh she always says no, so I kiss her and go.  Oh if she'd only say, throw your paddles away.  Till then I'm paddlin' Madeline home." Ha!

So I sang Dave a canoe song I learned way back at Girls Camp years ago.  It goes like this:

"Well, I took my guy in my little canoe

when the moon was shinin' all around.

We paddled, me-addled, we never even made a sound.

We talked and we talked till the moon grew dim,

I asked him if he's kiss me or get out and swim.

So now I'm alone in my little canoe

and the moon is shinin' all a, the moon is shinin' all a,

I know, we are weird.

Then we started reeling in the fish.

The water was like glass as the sun began to set.

The next day we went running then it was back in the canoe.

We left Saturday evening knowing we were coming back on Monday morning with Alex.

A Birthday for James

Our oldest grandson just turned five!  Dave and I took James to "Old McDonald's" for his birthday date as per his request.  Gotta love them nuggets.  James was wearing his "spy" glasses.

He chose Star Wars Legos for his present. ( I took this on my phone and can't turn it for the life of me.)

He had a party at his house the day after his birthday.  (The day of his birthday he went to the Rodeo with his family).  Five candles to blow out on his Costco cake.  Ashley said he had been wanting a rainbow cake from Costco ever since seeing one there awhile back.

His Grandpa and Grandma Mason gave him the Darth Vader mask and his parents gave him the Double Light Saber.  May the Force be with him.

"Who'd a thunk it?"

We bought a new camping trailer this week and decided to do a test run with it on Friday night.  We camped at Willard Bay.  It took us 10 minutes to get from our house to the campground.  Ha!  A piece of the trailer had fallen off when we got there and we retraced our route back towards home.  After saying a prayer we found the missing piece on the side of the road about 5 minutes back.  Yes, a blesssing.

It was a good thing we decided to test everything out.  The CO2 alarm kept going off and we think it is from a leak in the hot water heater.  So we will be getting that fixed before we go to the Uinta's next week.

Although it was very close to home, it was actually a fun little trip.  We stayed in the campground next to the bay.  The bridge and stairs behind Dave in this photo lead to a trail all around the bay.  We went running on it the next morning.

This owl was GINORMOUS!  It looked like a cat flying though the air at first.

We also did a bike ride that next morning. 

So "who'd a thunk" we could have had so much fun on a campout ten minutes from home?
