Gram and Gramp Camp 2012

This past weekend we held our First Annual Gram and Gramp Camp.

We decided to limit it to all of our grandchildren who were potty trained.  So Logan and Olivia weren't able to come this year.  Lily, James and Jack arrived Friday evening.  We started with a dinner of hotdogs.

Then we gave the kids swimming goggles and flashlights.

Next it was some water balloon games.  After one game of "hot potato" they were DYING to just have a good old water balloon fight.

They loaded up some ammo before the war began.  James couldn't get enough of it.  The entire night he kept asking when we could do water balloons again.

Next it was swimming.  We played "Colored Eggs" and "Marco Polo".

We had given all of the kids glow stick bracelets.  I had this vision of them swimming around in the dark and glowing.   But it never really got dark enough for them to show up very well.  It doesn't get dark until nearly 10 pm and we still had too much to do before then.

After showering off and getting in their jammies we sang camp songs around the campfire and roasted marshmallows.

We made smores with chocolate graham crackers.

After filling them with sugar, we had them pile into the family room downstairs for a movie.  We were hoping they would all fall asleep before the end.  Only Jack did, about 10 minutes before it was over.  Lily and James stayed awake the entire time.  But they were really good to go to sleep afterwards.

The next morning while eating breakfast we talked to the kids about honoring their parents.  We had them each make a thank you card for them.  Then we made cookies to take to their parents and Great Grandpa Grose.  While they were baking we headed outside for some more fun.

We made "ginormous" bubbles.

After that we put together little styrofoam airplanes to get them excited about our "field trip".

First we headed down to Great Grandpa Grose's house to give him some cookies and a card they had made.

Then it was off on our "field trip" to the Hill Air Force Museum.

Dave was excited to see the B-29 Superfortress.  This was the same type of plane that dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

We were starving by the time we finished at the museum.  The kids chose McDonald's and their very delicious Happy Meals for lunch.

Yes, our first Gram and Gramp Camp was a HUGE success.  The kids were so sweet the entire time.  Hopefully they will have good memories of this weekend.    I know Dave and I will.

James LOVED it. He said, "My favorite part was the water balloons. No wait, my favorite part was the airplanes. No wait...." It ended up pretty much everything was his favorite part. Thanks Mom and Dad!
