Memorial Day 2013

We got a jump-start on visiting the graves on Saturday.  The original plan was to pick up Dave's dad and take him to the cemeteries with us. As we were driving to his house we got a text that he had fallen and was being taken to the ER.  He ended up having a broken arm, just below his shoulder replacement pin.  Sad. 

 

While he was in the ER waiting for an on-call orthoped he said he wanted us to go put flowers on some of the relatives graves for him.  He will most likely be having surgery this week sometime.

On Monday, we got to ride in Ash and Jud's motor home with them.  We all went up to Cache Valley to visit some more graves and visit with my side of the fam.

Brigs got a diaper change on the lawn.

After the cemetery we all went to River Heights Park, just down the street from where my dad grew up.  We had a picnic under the bowery.

There is a great playground there.  The kid in the picture on the right was telling James and Jack that if they stayed in this imaginary lemonade stand all day they would probably get rich.  (We all had some of their "lemonade", paying them with wood chips)

Dave, Alex and Andrew enjoyed a little tennis.

On the ride home I let the boys use my tablet to play Angry Birds Star Wars.

When we got back, Ashley and Jud hosted a cook-out at their house.  Holly, who had to work at the clinic all day, and her family came as well.  I forgot to get any pictures of it.  But it was great. I loved this day!

Skills

We finally made it to the top of City Creek Canyon on our bike ride yesterday morning.  Dave got a chance to use his tire changing skills since I had a flat tire and have none of these skills.  But I did remember to bring a spare tire if that counts as a skill.  Lol.

 

Wow, was it ever a beautiful morning!

Odd houses

I got a new wicker basket for my bicycle.  I was so excited that I went for a ride down to the library to drop off my books that I conveniently had in my adorable basket.  Then I road around the avenues, enjoying the afternoon.  Here are a few of the homes people have painted, that in my opinion, are very strange.

 

This duplex is trying to be art deco, I suppose.  It's hard to see in this photo, but it is a bright lemon yellow with orange and turquoise trim. I actually kind of liked it.  It would have fit right in down in South Beach, Miami.

The rest of these speak for themselves.  I guess I have to give the people credit for creativity.

There were dozens and dozens of really classy homes.  I will do a post on some of them one day.

Programs or Progrums (if you want to pronounce it that way)

Lily was an angel fish in her First Grade musical.

Later that afternoon it was Preschool graduation.  James is a proud graduate.

So was Jack.

Then, that same evening, we got to go to a preview of the new movie, "Ephraim's Rescue" with the Grose fam.  We ate at the Lion House Pantry before the movie.

This next collage has nothing to do with programs.  I just wanted to show how I am trying to cheer up our tiny winy apartment.  Photos, new pillows, flowers on the balcony, and a DIY chalkboard I made.

Cali Trip - Part eight

The resort has two golf courses on it.  We played 18 holes our last morning. 

 

Then we went downtown to ride the ferry over to Coronado.

We rented bikes and rode around the island.

Dave, Alex and Andrew all bought me Mother's day presents on Coronado since the next day was Mother's Day. 

Then we drove back up to RB. We had dinner at Rubios and then went over to Claim Jumper for dessert.  Of course we had to get an "I Declaire" there.

The next morning we got up bright and early and drove all the way back home.  We stopped in St George and ate sandwiches we had packed.  Then we made a another pit stop in Scipio because Ash and Jud had told us about the cool petting zoo they had there.


We arrived home about 12 hours after leaving our resort that morning.  We were tired but so glad we were able to go on this memorable vacation.

Cali Trip - Part seven

We thought we should enjoy the nice pools at the resort after running like crazy the first few days that we were here. 

 

The waterslide was pretty fun.

I thought I would get a picture of Dave coming down.  He drenched me and the camera.  Nice.

I think Dave and James went down the slide at least twenty times. 

Cali Trip - Part six

Another fave - La Jolla.  We stopped to see the seals at the Children's Pool.

 

 

 

Then we headed over to La Jolla Shores.

This picture kills me.  How cute is this little guy?

You can see pure joy on Logan's face.

 

 

 

Even sand in the eyes didn't make him sad.

 

I brought the trusty old kite again.

Alex and Jud stayed out in the cold water for a very long time.

I had forgotten the reason we didn't go to La Jolla as often as some of the other beaches - kelp.  It winds around your legs when you're wading out and can be a little annoying.  But other than that it is a beautiful beach and we had a blast there.
