Wow, Alex got home from Korea exactly one year ago today. Because of that and the fact that Andrew was going to be leaving 5 days later we didn't get to do our traditional October Conference Friday Night Camping Trip to Logan Canyon. But this year we did!
We love to go to Guinavah campground. In years past it is practically deserted. Not this year, however. Maybe because of the good weather? There were lots of other campers up there this time.
We pulled in after dark on Friday night. Then this morning we got up and got a two hour hike in before listening to conference. It started out chilly, so I layered on the clothing.
We took the Crimson Trail up the side of the mountain.
This was a very strenuous hike. You can see the river where we began. We got way higher than this.
The leaves were beautiful, of course.
We kept climbing - up and up.
I loved this leaf!
Now look how high we got.
It was kind of scary. The cliffs dropped off for hundreds of feet.
But what a view!
You can see the trail alongside the cliff on the right. Yikes.
Coming down was tricky. There was lots of loose rock that was easy to slip on if you weren't cautious.
Back at our campgound we found this cool amphitheter that we had never noticed in years past. It was way at the back of the campground.
There was a thick blanket of leaves on the ground. I loved it!
I took a seat and told Dave to put on a show for me:
I thought I was going to die laughing. He did Riverdance. Bahaha!
Can you spot the dork?
Here was our amazing campsite. (I'm not sure, but it looks like Dave is still doing an Irish dance. What the?) hee hee just kidding.
Here are some of the leaves I just had to take back so I can press them. Gorgeous!
Trailer camping is the best. We pulled out Double Chocolate Magnum bars from the freezer.
Then we turned on the radio just in time to hear General Conference. I loved hearing the speakers, especially our dear prophet, President Monson.
After the morning session of conference we went out again for another hike. (Had to hike off at least part of that Magnum bar!) This time we took the lower, easier hike - the Riverside Nature Trail. This trail is so easy even a grandma can walk it. Oh wait, I'm a grandma. Ha!
Right smack dab in the middle of this photo is a rock with a hole all the way through it (just to the left of the big boulder) called a wind cave. Next year we want to hike to it. We ran out of time this year.
Pond scum.
We had to stop at Gossner's in Logan on our way home.
Cheese curd, baby. Plain for me, smoked for Davey boy.
