2013 Begins with a Parade

Wow, have I had a tough time with Blogger.  It has not wanted to let me add pictures.  I gave up for awhile but now that it is February I decided to give it a try again.  It looks like it may work.

At the end of December 2012 Dave and I took my dad and mom on a little trip to California.  My mom has always wanted to see the Rose Parade in Pasadena in person.  We bought tickets clear back a year ago.

We stopped at the Mad Greek for lunch in Baker.

We stayed for two nights in Marina Del Rey.

We went to church at the oldest LDS Church building still standing in California.  It was the Santa Monica ward.  The building had been dedicated by Heber J Grant and the members there were excited to show us the photo of it in their hallway.

I cannot go to Cali without going to the beach, no matter the weather.  I just have to smell that salty air and hear the sound of the waves rolling in.

We went to the Griffith Observatory in LA and had a great view of the city.

We ate dinner one night in Korea Town.  Yum.

We took a tour in an open bus to see Hollywood and some of the moviestar's homes.

We also got free tickets to Madame Tussaud's Wax museum.  It was actually more fun that I thought it would be.  Some of the figures really looked alive.

Finally on New Year's Day the reason we took this trip:  The Rose Parade!

Mom's high school alma mater, Davis High School, had their marching band perform in the parade.

It was nice to be somewhat warm for a few days.  I never thought I would say temperatures in the 40s would be considered warm.  As we drove home, the temps got below zero on our car thermometer.
