Let Freedom Ring

Our community celebrated Independence Day on the 3rd this year, since the 4th of July is on a Sunday. Dave, Andrew, Ashley and I started out the morning with a 5k.
Mom and Dad joined us for the parade later that morning. We sat by Ash and Jud and the boys. It was probably the nicest weather we've ever had at a parade. "Not too hot, not too cold."
This float embodied what a patriotic parade should be. Men in uniform representing all of the wars America has been involved in from the Revolutionary War to present day.

When the parade passes by . . .

For the last 11 years we have had a pool party after the parade. "Bring your own meat to grill and a potluck to share."

Olivia napped on our bed all afternoon.

This year we moved our basket ball hoops to the deep end of the pool. At first the guys were worried about treading water for so long, but then they came up with the idea of wearing lifejackets upside down, like a diaper.

I would compare that end of the pool to a shark tank, and just as dangerous, when they are really into their game. Yikes!

It's much calmer down at the shallow end.

That afternoon the guys were wiped out.

Later that evening, when everyone's energy level returned, we went to Jud's parents' house to play crouquet and watch the fireworks.

Just below the building, in the center of the photo, is where they light off the fireworks. It is so nice because they are right at eye level.

The kids, in their jammies, waiting for the fireworks to begin.

Not only could we watch our fireworks, but we could see five other communities fireworks, off in the distance. Thanks, Kathy and Terry, for sharing your backyard with us!
Sweet land of liberty, indeed.
